Policlinico Umberto I

The “Policlinico Umberto I” is actually the main public hospital in Rome (Viale del Policlinico, 155). The project, promoted by the then Minister of Public Instruction, the physician Guido Baccelli and designed by the architect Giulio Podesti, was realized between 1888 and 1902. On August 1904, the “Policlinico” opened its doors to patients, with a capacity of 1650 beds.
