Karoline Breitinger’s consulting rooms

Karoline Breitinger opened a practice in Esslingen am Neckar (7 Kupfergasse), where a memorial plate remembers her.
In order to practise without restrictions, she would have had to sit her medical examinations at a German university, but she was denied this opportunity. In 1903, she attached 1,400 signatures from women in Esslingen to an application for professional approval. It was not until 1907 that she obtained permission from the Federal Council to study in Strasbourg. She subsequently returned to Esslingen, where she practised medicine until her death.
