This pastel on canvas painting called “La vaccinazione nelle campagne” (vaccination in the countryside) was created in 1894 by Italian painter Demetrio Cosola a is preserved in Palazzo Santa Chiara of Chivasso (Piazza Generale Carlo Alberto dalla Chiesa, 8). It was intended as a celebration of the first mass anti-smallpox vaccination campaign in united Italy, which was started in Chivasso, birthtown of the painter.
