Jean-Baptiste Lamarck was buried in the Montparnasse Cemetery of Paris in a provisional tomb on December 20, 1829, after a funeral service in the church of Saint-Médard. But nobody got busy to buy a permanent tomb and after five years his remains were probably scattered in the catacombs of the cemetery1.
