The five centuries years old Ospedale Grande di San Matteo o della Pietà was transferred in the new pavilions of the Policlinico San Matteo in 1932, where it remains as the principal healthcare institution of the city and one of the most renowned in Italy.
In the entrance hall of the Policlinico can be admired a 1934 reproduction of the Pity bas-relief, symbol of the old hospital, and a bust of Camillo Golgi who was – as the inscription states – the first to encourage the construction of the new hospital.
