Harley Street

For more than a century, Harley Street in London “has been famous throughout much of the world, as the centre of British consultative medicine. Its heyday came at the end of the nineteenth century, at a time when specialisation in medicine was gathering pace. (…) As Harley Street gradually filled up with doctors, who eventually displaced almost all other residents, the adjacent steets accomodated the overflow, so that Cavendish Square, Wimpole Street and Portland Place acquired the same prestige as Harley Street itself”1.
